Finally, school is over, and you have to find something to do during the extra eight hours given for three months! Maybe your friends are across the world, or have extra classes to take. Don’t be the person who says “nothing” when someone asks what you did this summer. After reading this, you will not say your summer this year was boring. You could probably write an entire speech on what you did!
Learn a new skill
This is the best time to learn a new skill! You could learn a new song on an instrument, try a new sport, or start a new hobby. The pursuit of new skills can improve the ability to make connections with others, give a feeling of being well-rounded and productively uses free time enjoyably.
End your summer slide
Summer slide is the term for the decline in academic skills and knowledge. Studies show that students may loose about 20% of their school-year gains in reading, and 27% in math. This equals an entire month of learning gone. That’s why those MAP test scores you see significantly drop from spring to fall. Don’t go into the summer slide. Make reading an everyday habit, even for 30 minutes. Practice your math skills, because it would be torture having to repeat them when the year starts.
Go on an outdoor adventure
Summer break is likely the longest break you get, so make use of it by going on a trip! You don’t have to go across the world for it, but visit a national park or state park. Even try canoeing, skiing or bungee jumping you like the far side. Hiking and camping are also fun things to do during the summer.
Meet up with friends
Plan fun things to do with friends. Honestly, after not seeing a friend after a while, its kind of awkward to talk to them, even if you text a lot. Don’t do that. Maintain a strong connection with people in person. Because it’s summer, swim with friends, go to the park, or do other fun outdoor activities. Trust me, don’t be that person on their phone during a conversation. Even if you don’t like to be outside, you can have a karaoke party, play games, or just talk; whatever it takes to be off a screen and talk to people.
Glow up
When you’re busy, like during the school year, you might have gotten so busy you forgot about yourself and what you need! Something I like to do is to track my moods on the Health app on my phone. Instead of feeling mixed up every day, organize your feelings there! Practice proper hygiene everyday, update your skincare, update your aesthetic, eat well, and exercise daily, so you can glow from the inside-out.
